The Himalayan Children Education Trust was set up, by retired teacher Pauline MacInnes, in August 2007 to support the education of the Nepali children living in the Kalimpong Hill Region of West Bengal. Our primary means of providing educational aid is to sponsor teachers in remote village communities in the Kalimpong Hill Region and Darjeeling Hill Region of West Bengal, India.
Initially we supported seven teachers, at a small primary School called St. Mary's Tribal School, in a village called Nok Dara. Due to a number of successful fund raising ventures are now also supporting six infant teachers, at St. Joseph's School, in the village of Gitdubling.
Paying teachers' wages enables all the children in this Region to receive an education. The HCET depends on voluntary contributions, to fulfill it's remit to pay "teachers' wages". All money raised through the Trust is used for this purpose. No money raised through the Trust is used for expenses.
The HIMALAYAN EDUCATION TRUST has been discontinued from October 2017.
Thank you very much to all who have supported the HCET for the 13 years it was in existence.
